We care so much, in fact, that we want to give you a DSi XL!

When: Monday, April 5th, until Friday, April 30th
Where: Edward McKay Used Books & More, 3720 Bragg Blvd, Fayetteville NC

What you have to do: Stop by our store. Fill out a survey. It’ll only take a few minutes! We’ll ask you questions that will help us tailor our inventory, store events, and customer service to make them better. Once you’re done with the survey, we toss it in the raffle bucket and you’re entered into a drawing to win a brand new DSi XL! (Oooh, shiny.)

The fine print: Drawing will be held at noon on Saturday, May 1st. Survey must be filled out completely in order for you to be eligible to win. (Bookstore employees and relatives are not eligible to win, so don’t even try it, y’all.) Winners will be contacted via phone and announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages. If you win the DSi XL and don’t want it (we find this hard to be believe, but it’s possible), you may choose to either get cash equivalent to what we would pay for the system, or the a trade credit equivalent for our DSi XL sale price.

Your privacy: We’ll use your phone number only to call you if you win; otherwise we won’t use it for any purpose whatever. We’ll e-mail you one time, to invite you to join our supercool mailing list, but if you don’t join it you’ll never hear from us again and we will not sell, rent, or otherwise share your e-mail address with any third party. Book Reading at the Winston Store!

Join us on Saturday, March 27, for a book signing and reading with Michele Manderine. Ms. Manderine will be reading from her book, “Tristan, the Maine Coon Cat,” and signing copies of the book. A replica of “Tristan the Cat,” will be “assisting” her at the event.

She’ll be here between 11am and 5pm. Please drop by, we’d love to see you! If you like you can even RSVP on our Facebook events page.

Our Winston store is proud to welcome DJ Bolmongani this Friday, January 15th as part of our Vinyl Friday! He’ll be spinning from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Come on out and boogie. And if that’s not entertainment enough, all vinyl will be 15% off that day. Time to stock up on some records.

The David Sedaris event was GREAT!

Last Thursday, October 8th, Ed McKay’s was given the opportunity to sell books during An Evening With David Sedaris at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro. It was delightful. In addition to being “shrewd,” “wickedly funny,” and “one of America’s most prickly and most delicious […] comic talents,” Mr. Sedaris is an exceptionally generous public speaker. For example, he likes to find independent bookstores to sell the merchandise at his events; that’s why we got to be there. Mr. Sedaris implored the audience to shop at Ed McKay’s, adding that he did so all the time. Additionally, Mr. Sedaris limited ticket sales to 1200 (the auditorium seats 2376) because he wanted to be able to talk to everybody. Which he did. For hours. And hours. And seemed to enjoy. In earnest.

If you weren’t able to go this time, please don’t despair. We have many new and autographed copies of each of his books and audiobooks available in Greensboro (we’re sorry we can’t accept trade credit for them since they are brand new). Perfect for the holidays. Come and get them while supplies last!

He’ll be here on Thursday! David Sedaris, bestselling author of several books including Me Talk Pretty One Day and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, will be in Greensboro October 8th at War Memorial Auditorium!

We’ve got the books and we’re ready to rock! We’ll have tables set up before and after the event to sell books for Mr. Sedaris to sign.

Thanks to everyone who came by the Heathens Art Show on September 19, 2009 in Fayetteville. We were delighted (and happily surprised!) by the large numbers of people who came by to listen to the music and check out the artwork. Fayetteville: Used Books and an Art Show!

Usually when we say “Used Books and More,” we mean a selection of our other merchandise like movies, video games, music CDs, and audio books. But this weekend we also mean art and live tunes! Our Fayetteville store will be hosting the Heathens Art Show, featuring the work of Christina Cole, Sam Guin, Mike Dees, And Govina Taylor, who make up the Feral Art Collective in Fayetteville, as well as our own manager and artist Kristi Jones. The show is taking place this Saturday, September 19th, from 6pm to 9pm, in the David Bowie room. And if the art isn’t enough, the show is also featuring music from DJ Randy of Hypersonic.

If you can’t manage to make it this Saturday, the art from the show will be on display in the David Bowie room for a week, and we’ll try to get some pictures of the show up on the Web site. But we’d really love to see you this weekend!
