The Buy / Sell / Trade Guide: Winston-Salem Edward McKay’s

We are in the business of recycling knowledge through reusing books and other types of media. We Buy, Sell and Trade, 7 days a week. Bring your items to us in boxes or bags and we’ll be happy to evaluate them for you. No appointment necessary! We work on a first come, first served basis, so expect some waiting time if there are others ahead of you. Depending on the volume of business at any given time, there can be limitations placed on the amount of merchandise we will allow you to bring in on one visit. You’ll usually receive more in Trade Credit than in cash. Trade Credit never expires and can be used at any of our stores. Please note that we are not able to guarantee that we will buy back merchandise that came from our store.

Be prepared! If you’re selling items for cash, you must have a valid government or state issued picture ID with you — a driver’s license, Identification card or college ID. You must be 16 or older to sell items to our store for cash.

What We Can’t Buy

Space is limited. We have certain criteria to follow when buying merchandise. Edward McKay Used Books and more will only purchase items we deem to be in sellable condition. Listed below are some reasons we might not be able to buy something from you and some items we don’t buy at all.

  • Books with water damage, mold, broken spines, tears, pages missing, excessive writing or highlighting, etc.
  • Library discards
  • Encyclopedia sets
  • Magazines
  • DVDs or CDs missing cases or booklets
  • Video Games missing cases
  • Very scratched or cracked discs
  • Computer Games and Software

Video Game Systems and other hardware MUST come with all the necessary pieces: cords, charger, controller, etc. If pieces are missing we are unable to test the hardware and therefore unable to buy it.

These are only examples. We also take into account our stock levels and the age/popularity of items being sold to us, all of which are likely to change daily. We reserve the right to refuse the purchase of any items for any reason.

What We Pay Cash For

Items we may be able to offer cash for include:

  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Video Games and Hardware
  • iPods
  • Current Textbooks
  • Fiction
  • Vinyl Records
  • Nonfiction
  • Audiobooks on CD

Items we generally only pay Trade Credit for include:

  • Most Children’s Books
  • VHS Tapes

Spending Your Trade Credit!

It never expires, but it just might burn a hole in your pocket. Trade Credit can be used on:

  • All books except current textbooks
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • VHS Tapes
  • Vinyl Records
  • Audiobooks

So gather up a box of books, those DVDs you never watch anymore, or maybe that video game you beat six months ago and drop by. Please be aware that we stop purchasing items from customers 30 minutes prior to closing each day. We’re open seven days a week. 9am – 9pm Monday through Saturday and 12pm – 6pm Sunday.
